Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I stayed in the neighborhood, and on a walk up Marcus Garvey Boulevard from Fulton Street I was struck by the changes coming to the stretch. Tracking business openings in Bed Stuy is interesting; because the neighborhood is so large you don’t see openings in any confined or specific locale. And on Marcus Garvey, there are still plenty of empty storefronts separating the newcomers. But it really is nice to see more commercial life on the street. Pictured above, Wing It is now at 439 MGB, between Macon and Macdonough. The place will serve wings (of course), burgers, salads, sandwiches and soul food.
Across the street at 410 MGB, the gift shop Locale has opened. I wrote about the store back in April. And the Mexican restaurant Tepache looks like it’ll open any day now on the northwest corner of MGB and Halsey Street. (I spoke with the owner about the new space last month.)
Finally, anybody have more details on this? It’s the old Marcus Vineyard space between Halsey and Macon. I couldn’t find details about Tree House online, so let me know if you know more than I do. UPDATE: It looks like the operators of this new spot will request a liquor license from Community Board 3 at the next monthly meeting.
UPDATE #2: A commenter points out that the landlord of the former Jeffrey’s location, at 426A Marcus Garvey, is looking for a new restaurant tenant. I’ve never been inside but it seems like a huge space.
