There is now finally – finally! – a place to get a good, chewy New York bagel in Bed-Stuy. Nagle’s Bagels opened up this week at 378 Tompkins, right off Putnam Avenue. (Literally right around the corner from Brooklyn Kettle Cafe, which opened last month.) It’s a cute little spot with a few seats. They also serve pastries and have a full espresso bar.
This is the second location for the bagel cafe. This first one is in Crown Heights, on Franklin Avenue, and it looks like they have plans to expand again in Crown Heights and into Lefferts Gardens. They don’t make their own bagels — bagels at the Franklin Avenue locale come from Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe on Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights. But they make fun sandwiches like nova and cream cheese, whitefish, avocado and the classic bacon egg and cheese. Prices for sandwiches range from $5 to $10. Schmears include scallion, veggie and tofu.
