The owner of Clinton Hill bar Hot Bird has opened a speakeasy-style cocktail bar called Pelican at 382 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, on the corner of Hancock. The owner, who lives in the neighborhood, designed much of the bar himself over a two-year period. There’s a small bar–only four seats–accompanied by cozy seating nooks and a big window looking out onto the street. It’s still in soft-opening mode (and accepting cash only), but more artwork and decor will go up in the coming weeks.

If you’ve been to Hot Bird this spot is much smaller and more intimate. And while Hot Bird is more beer focused, Pelican offers a variety of cocktails priced between $9-10. Check out the current offerings on the menu below.

There’s no food, though the manager said they may explore pop-up food opportunities in the future. He also noted that the commercial space across the street is slated for some new restaurants, including a Thai spot.

Pelican is looking to get the word out that they’re open, and will be in full-force opening mode in the coming weeks! Check out more shots of the interior and the drinks at the bar’s Instagram.
